Let's take a break from the December holiday prep to finish out October - we still have Halloween to get through! As October winds down and it is now the eve of Halloween, let's delve into a topic that's both timely and deeply personal: "Spooky Self-Reflection." So, grab a treat before the goblins show up, settle in, and let's explore how we can face our fears and conquer our inner monsters.
In life, we all have our inner demons, those nagging fears and insecurities that can haunt our thoughts. Instead of running from them, let's shine a light on them. Self-reflection isn't just about the good stuff; it's also about acknowledging the shadowy aspects of our inner selves.
Confronting our fears isn't easy, but it's essential for personal growth. When I left my job back in August, it was to make decisions about my life. I also said that while I was deciding this next phase of my life, that I would use the time to finish the book I was writing on caring for my dad. It was plugging right along, I was way ahead of my own schedule and it should have been done at the beginning of this month...I'm not exaggerating when I say that the book is 99.99% finished, but I have stopped just short of publishing and can't seem to finish.
I'm procrastinating because I know once the book is done - I have to make some decisions, and I still don't know what to do. I'm afraid. Confronting our fears is never easy, but it's essential for personal growth. Can you think of a moment when you faced your fears head-on? Do you remember a time when you took on a challenge that you thought was too big? It's that kind of courage that we need now.
It's okay to be afraid. Cut yourself some slack. We often underestimate the power of vulnerability. It takes strength to admit to our fears and uncertainties. But when we do, we open the door to growth and self-improvement. When we embrace our vulnerabilities, we discover a well of untapped strength within us.
Do you remember the stories and fairy tales from when we were kids? The hero faces their fears or enemy, defeats them and comes out stronger? This journey is no different. I've told you my fears, now let's identify yours and make a plan to confront them.
Do you need help? Here are a couple of things that I do:
Keep a journal - keeping a journal is so underrated. It's a place where you tell your deepest darkest secrets, fears and insecurities. It's a great record to have to look back on and track your progress over time.
Don't be afraid to ask for help...share your struggles with a trusted friend, family member or even a coach - like me!
Take baby steps...facing your fears doesn't mean jumping in headfirst. Start small and work through them little by little.
Always remember, it's okay to be scared; what matters is how you respond to those fears. Let's conquer our inner monsters together!
I encourage you to share your thoughts and your own spooky self-reflection stories in the comments below. You never know...your experience can inspire and guide others in their journeys. And remember, you're never alone in this adventure towards self-improvement.
