Okay - it's the final post in this series (for now!) on raising your standards. In the journey of raising our standards, it's crucial to start from a place of self-love and self-appreciation. If you don't think you deserve more, you will never achieve it. Often, we are our own harshest critics, focusing on our flaws and imperfections. The exercise below is designed to help you shift your perspective by recognizing the wonderful aspects of yourself. I just did it this weekend and it was pretty powerful. Grab a pen and paper...it's time to write a love letter to yourself.

Step 1: Find a Quiet Space Set aside some quiet, uninterrupted time for yourself. Find a comfortable place where you can reflect without distractions.

Step 2: Address the Letter to Yourself Begin your letter with a heartfelt salutation. Address it to yourself, using terms of endearment like "Dear [Your Name]."

Step 3: Acknowledge Your Positive Qualities Now, let the love flow. Write down all the wonderful things about yourself, from every aspect of your life. Here's a guide to get you started:

  1. Personal Qualities: Describe your personality traits that you love. Are you kind, empathetic, funny, or adventurous? Celebrate these qualities.

  2. Relationships: Reflect on your roles as a spouse, sibling, significant other, friend, or family member. What makes you a good partner, friend, or family member? How have you supported and cared for others?

  3. Work and Career: Recognize your professional achievements and skills. What do you excel at in your job? What positive feedback have you received from colleagues or supervisors?

  4. Personal Achievements: Highlight your personal accomplishments, whether it's a hobby you've mastered, a goal you've achieved, or personal growth you've experienced.

  5. Strengths and Talents: Identify your unique strengths and talents. What are you naturally good at? How have these abilities benefited you and others?

Step 4: Keep it Positive Throughout your letter, focus solely on the positive aspects of yourself. Avoid any negative self-criticism or things you feel you need to improve. This letter is a celebration of your existing greatness. Step 5: Express Gratitude to Yourself Express gratitude to yourself for being the wonderful person that you are. Acknowledge the effort and love you've put into various aspects of your life. Step 6: Seal It With Love Close your letter with warm regards, sign it, and date it. This letter represents a moment of self-love and appreciation, so treat it as a treasure. Step 7: Revisit Your Letter When you're feeling low or doubting yourself, return to this letter as a reminder of your worth. You are deserving of all the good things life has to offer.

Raising your standards begins with recognizing your own worth. This exercise isn't just a one-time activity; it's an ongoing practice of self-love and self-appreciation. By acknowledging your positive qualities and focusing on your strengths, you'll find it easier to raise your standards because you'll understand that you deserve the very best. Embrace the wonderful person you are, and let that be the foundation for your journey to higher standards.
