As the leaves start to turn their vibrant shades of red and orange, and the cool breeze of autumn fills the air, today we celebrate Grandparent's Day...This special occasion, celebrated on the first Sunday of September - after Labor Day, gives us the perfect opportunity to honor and cherish the wisdom, love, and invaluable contributions of our grandparents.
Grandparent's Day is a day dedicated to recognizing and appreciating the generations that came before us. It's a time to celebrate the unique bond between grandparents and their grandchildren and to show our gratitude for the wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love they bestow upon us.
This day offers a chance to bridge the generation gap and create lasting memories. Whether it's through sharing stories, cooking family recipes, or simply spending quality time together, Grandparent's Day serves as a reminder of the wealth of knowledge and experiences that our elders possess.
Grandparent's Day is a relatively new "Hallmark Holiday" - something we didn't celebrate when I was younger. My paternal grandfather had passed away long before I was born. My paternal grandmother lived on the other side of the country, and we rarely saw her. On my mom's side, her mother had passed away when I was a toddler. Her dad was around into my adulthood, but he was a very strict disciplinarian...not the happy go lucky "papas" we see today. We feared him more than loved him...I'm sure I'm not the only one who had grandparents like that, and when I see grandparents today - people my age, I feel that they are being the grandparents they wish they had.
Completely by coincidence, as we prepare to celebrate our grandparents. my newest book "Generations of Grace, A Grandmother's Prayer Book," has just been published, and is available on Amazon. Generations of Grace is a collection of prayers and blessing specifically crafted to honor the role of grandmothers in our lives. It was inspired by the amazing grandmothers that my sisters and friends have become.
Grandparents' Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the enduring love and wisdom of our grandparents, especially grandmothers. As we honor these special individuals, let's come together, express our gratitude, and cherish the precious moments we have with them. Whether through shared stories, quality time spent together, or heartfelt conversations, let's bridge the generation gap and create lasting memories. This Grandparents' Day, let's reflect on the significance of our grandparents' role in our lives, expressing our love and appreciation for their invaluable contributions.
Oh and hey, if you wanna buy my book...I'm not gonna stop you! 😊
