Unanswered Prayers

Last weekend - as I often like to spend a Sunday...watching movies about possession and exorcisms, 😂 I watched a movie called "Crucifixion" - it was pretty good. During the movie, someone spoke the words "Unanswered Prayers" and then this poem fell out of me....

Being older, I have experienced quite a bit. I have spent a lot of my life praying...to have some prayers answered in the way that I had hoped, but many left "unanswered" or that did not go my way. What I have learned, finally, in these many years, is that prayers are always answered.

As the saying that, by this point, I should have tattooed on my body - "everything happens for a reason" - it should also say that "everything that doesn't happen, has a reason"...

You don't always get the answers right away. It may be years - decades even (if ever) - before you know why something didn't work out. Sometimes, you're being protected from something (rejection is protection!) and sometimes the answer isn't a NO...it's just a "not yet" - that there is something that needs to be done or learned before your "yes" comes through.

So take heart. If you pray, continue to do so...they are heard...Open your heart to hear the answers. And here's my poem if you care...

Unanswered Prayers

In depths of despair, with a heavy heart

We kneel in prayer, seeking a fresh start

Yearning for comfort or a warm embrace

Seeking answers, or a divine saving grace.

Oh, how we plead in our darkest hour,

Humbled and vulnerable – our souls devour

Searching for guidance, a way to repair

The broken pieces of a life left bare.

In whispers and cries we set forth our pleas

Like fragile whispers caught in a breeze

But do we listen for a response…oh so near

Or continue to echo prayers that fall on deaf ears?

The answer isn’t always what we want or expect

Sometimes it’s wrapped in trials and hard to detect

Lessons disguised, with blessings to share

Yet, we may miss them, still caught in despair.

The strength we seek may be right within our grasp

In perseverance and courage – in remaining steadfast.

The path will unravel, if we only believe.

That everything lies inside us – for us to achieve.

Unanswered prayers, misunderstood, we fear

Yet wisdom whispers – if we’d just lend an ear

For in each challenge lies a hidden key

Unlocking the truth – that we’re meant to see.

It’s not that our prayers go unheard

We just fail to hear the unspoken word

Open your heart and the answers will flow

In divine timing, your answers will show.

Unanswered prayers, yes, lessons disguised

Unraveling mysteries right before our eyes.

And, as we grow, our faith does extend

Grateful for the answers we’ve learned to comprehend.
