On September 11, 2001, the world changed forever. It was a day that etched itself into the our collective memories, a day that challenged our sense of security, and a day that showcased both the worst and the best of humanity. Today, we remember the events of 9/11, a day of tragedy and unity that shaped the course of history

On that fateful morning, the world watched in disbelief as a series of coordinated terrorist attacks unfolded. Four commercial airplanes were hijacked, and their intended targets were symbols of American strength and freedom. Two of those planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, causing the iconic skyscrapers to collapse in a cloud of dust and debris. Another plane struck the Pentagon, while the fourth, United Flight 93, crashed into a Pennsylvania field after courageous passengers attempted to regain control.

The toll was staggering—nearly 3,000 lives lost, countless injuries, and billions of dollars in property damage. I used to work in the World Financial Center, which stood right behind the Twin Towers. I walked through them at least twice per day, and know how many people are in those buildings at any given time. It is by the grace of God alone that the toll was not so very much higher. The world stood still in shock and horror.

Yet, amid the darkness, stories of heroism and unity emerged. First responders rushed into burning buildings to save lives. Ordinary citizens risked everything to help others. The world came together in solidarity and support, demonstrating that even in the face of unspeakable evil, the human spirit can shine brightly.

My home town, New York City, showed remarkable resilience. It rebuilt, stronger and more determined than ever before. The nation came together, united in the resolve to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. You know I love me some Bruce Springsteen. His album, The Rising, came out in 2002 and is primarily a tribute to 9/11...especially the title track...every time I hear it...it sends chills up my spine.

Today, we remember 9/11 through annual memorials. We honor the victims and pay tribute to the heroes who emerged that day. But remembrance goes beyond the date on the calendar; it's about ensuring that the lessons of 9/11 are never forgotten. 9/11 reminds us that we are stronger together, that unity and resilience are our greatest assets, and that we must work towards a world where such acts of hatred and violence are but a distant memory.

As we remember September 11, 2001, let us take a moment to reflect on the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the resilience that emerged from the ashes. Let us honor the memory of that day by working together to build a better, more compassionate world. In unity, we find strength, and in remembrance, we find the motivation to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.
