Redefining Balance: It's Not Always Equal or Fair

I swear, there is nothing I love more than learning something new.

I attended a master class the other night and the instructor said that “Balance doesn’t always mean equal and it doesn’t always mean fair – you may not be as skilled in one area of your life as you are in another” and I thought that was such a valuable perspective on the concept of balance.

Balance doesn't necessarily mean dividing your time, energy, or focus equally among all aspects of your life. Instead, it's about finding a harmonious arrangement that suits your unique circumstances, strengths, and priorities.

Life is multifaceted, and everyone has different skills, passions, and responsibilities. Some areas might require more attention than others due to their significance or urgency. It's okay if you're more skilled or invested in one area of your life than another. The key is to ensure that you're not neglecting any essential aspect while still allowing for flexibility and adaptation.

For instance, you might excel in your career but struggle with maintaining a social life. Or you might be a fantastic parent but find it challenging to make time for personal hobbies. Maybe it’s a health issue where everything else has to take a back seat. Recognizing these imbalances and making conscious choices to address them can help you achieve a more meaningful and satisfying life.

Balance is a dynamic concept that can change over time. What's important is to assess your priorities regularly and make adjustments as needed to create a life that aligns with your values and brings you fulfillment.

I think that's a perfect way to head into the weekend. Maybe this weekend is a time for you to get a little more balance. The work week is done and you can put the family, rest, relaxation or self care front and center for a time. There will be more time for work next week.

Here's to a weekend of balance.
