Happy Father's Day

Today I would like to pay tribute to this man. Ernest Evelyn Carmichael 1924-2017 – Isn’t he so very handsome??

I am so proud to call him my Dad. He was a good man to his very core. He was dependable, hard-working, loyal. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was humble and kind. He had a great sense of humor and told jokes in a funny “dad-joke” kind of way…silly jokes, but we would laugh and laugh at the same joke no matter how many times he told it (“Boo Bee!”)

To care for him the last 7 years of his life was my greatest privilege. It was also the 2nd hardest thing I ever had to do…because I had no idea what I was doing! I wanted to do the absolute best for and by him. The #1 hardest thing I ever had to do in my life – by far - was to let him go.

When I think of all of my best qualities, I can trace them all back to him. Every. Single. One.

When he told me he was proud of me, I would answer “You should be proud…you MADE me!”

Here’s to all the really great Dads out there. Happy Father’s Day!! If you’re lucky enough to still have your Dad, give him hug today…and give him one for me too…because I am missing mine!!
