Change After Trauma

Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges our way (right?!), and sometimes those challenges turn into traumatic experiences. When we find ourselves face-to-face with this trauma, we’re forced to tap into our inner strength and essentially become warriors, battling through pain, fear, and God knows what else – sometimes for our very own survival. The warrior (think Braveheart) calls upon our resilience and strength – strength we didn’t even know we had. We fight to survive, to make our way through the darkness and to protect ourselves from future harm. The “warrior” empowers us to confront our pain head-on and move towards healing and recovery.
When we come out of the trauma, we may find ourselves on unfamiliar ground. The wounds may be healed, but the scars always remain…reminding us of the battles we fought. Wear those scars like a freakin’ badge of courage…of everything you have overcome….you will need them for what comes next.
We all know that change is constant, and a transformation after trauma is no exception. You have to let go of the warrior – put Braveheart back in the closet until he is needed again. Let go of the person you were forced to become dealing with the struggle. Take time to get used to your new circumstances and be open to change…You may have to redefine your values, readjust your priorities and even explore new possibilities.
Change after trauma may require you to redefine your identity. You’re no longer defined by the battle. You have the power to turn the page and start a new chapter. Don’t focus on the struggle, focus on the future. Take the passion and aspirations you had before, along with this newfound strength and resiliency and invent a new you that aligns with your present situation and goals.
The Tony Robbins training was awesome yesterday, and just what I needed. I’m so excited to do the work and see who I become!
