Celebrate the Summer Solstice

Today is my MOST favorite day of the year…Summer Solstice. This has been my favorite day since the 90’s when, within weeks of arriving in Los Angeles, I hopped in a car with complete strangers for a weekend in Santa Barbara. No one knew where I was going…even me! I had no cell phone, and I had no car. I just got in the car and went…yeah, I’m crazy like that!
We went to Santa Barbara for a Summer Solstice party on the beach. If I only had one word to describe it with, it would be MAGICAL. I don’t remember anyone I went with – except for Hugo (he was pretty unforgettable 😊), but the magic of that night has stayed with me to this day.
The Summer Solstice has been celebrated throughout history…in fact, many ancient civilizations constructed structures aligned with the solstice…such as Stonehenge in England, where the rising sun aligns with specific stones on this day.
Now, we gather to celebrate the longest day of the year…the peak, after which the days start getting shorter. For me, it’s always been like a day for a new beginning…when everything and anything is possible.
The photo below is not mine…courtesy of a friend and taken in Maine this morning. So beautiful. It’s raining where I am, but today, I carry the warmth, the sunshine and the magic of this day inside me.
Happy Summer Solstice!
